The department said farewell to Ph.D. student James Mtamakaya on December 12. Dr. Mtamakya was supervised by Prof. Marcelo Santos and the title of his thesis is “Assessment of Atmospheric Pressure Loading on the International GNSS REPRO1 Solutions Periodic Signatures”. The department said farewell to two M.Sc.E students, Rodrigo Carvalho and Carlos Rubrio, on September 10, 2012. Both were supervised by Dr. John Hughes Clarke and the titles of their theses are “Proper Environmental Reduction for Attenuation in Multi-Sector Sonars” and “Automatic Mid-Water Target Detection Using Multibeam Water Column,” respectively.

The department said a belated farewell to former Ph.D. student Robbie Kingdon on July 10, 2012. Dr. Kingdon was supervised by Prof. Marcelo Santos and Prof. Em. Petr Vaníček and the title of his thesis is “Advances In Gravity Based Height Systems.” He received his degree at the 183rd Encaenia in May of this year.

The department celebrated Yun Zhang's ACOA award and the retirement of Peter Dare as chair of GGE with a special luncheon on 1 June 2012. Organized by Sylvia Whitaker, Michelle Ryan, and Lorry Hunt (thanks, ladies!), a good time was had by all – as the saying goes. The department said farewell to M.Sc.E student Reenu Toodesh on April 5, 2012. Reenu was supervised by Dr. John Hughes Clarke and the title of her thesis is “The Oceanographic Circulation of the Port of Saint John Over Tidal and Seasonal Timescales”.

The Department said farewell to Janak Gautam on January 6. Janak has completed the requirements for his M.Eng. degree under the supervision of Dr. Sue Nichols.
