Maps and Compasses
The topic of Maps and Compasses is very much life-related. Students will use the skills and techniques of navigation in the activities they follow in life such as travel, boating, hiking, fishing, orienteering, rally driving and camping to name a few. For this reason the Web site provides ideas and suggestions for activities to practice the skills and engage in problem solving. Community involvement is encouraged and opportunities to pursue activities beyond the classroom are investigated. There is an emphasis on the development of student's positive attitudes towards their mathematics by involving them in a variety of simulations, practical work and interaction with community resources. Technology is investigated with reference to the Internet, computer software and experience working with navigation instruments and aids.
