GGE (SE) 40th Anniversary Reunion
Technical Session
On Saturday, 23 June, the technical session was held at the Wu Conference Centre. It was gratifying to see the turnout indicating a healthy interest in what we are doing and where we are going. The presentations were divided into our six main fields of research, namely, engineering surveying covered by
Adam Chrzanowski; geodesy, discussed by
Petr Vaníček aided by
Marcelo Santos; an update on GPS technology was given by
Richard Langley;
Sue Nichols, and graduate student Michael Sutherland, described the latest developments in land administration; ocean mapping was presented by
John Hughes Clarke; and mapping and GIS was handled by
Y.C. Lee and
Yun Zhang. At the conclusion of the research updates,
a lively panel discussion with audience participation took place on the future of our field and the research being conducted and education being given at UNB.

As part of the technical session, Y.C. Lee called upon Salem Masry to step to the podium to unveil a poster compiled by Y.C. It showed the evolution of CARIS and the first functioning workstation located at what is now Service New Brunswick. The poster currently hangs in the main hall of the Department.
