General Areas of Land & Coastal Studies Research at UNB

Land Tenure and Land Policy:
Understanding the evolving legal, economic, and cultural relationships people have with the land and natural resources with special interests in customary tenure, indigenous tenure, and women's access to land.
 
Land Registration and Administration:
Evaluating, designing, and implementing systems and institutional arrangements to manage land tenure and land tenure information with special interests in land reform in Eastern Europe/Central Asia, property formalization in Latin America, and aboriginal self-government.
 
Development of information management systems for property, administrative, and jurisdictional boundaries in coastal and offshore areas, including Law of the Sea.
 
Land and Ocean Information Management:
Inclusion of the property dimension in spatial data infrastructures, building on early work on the multipurpose cadastre and modern developments, such as information networks, web-based systems, and spatial fusion, and addressing policy issues such as the role of land information in participatory democracy (see Delta project LINK).
