At the December 1996 undergraduate banquet, celebrating the culmination of over 4 years of study, were, left to right, Anthony L. Curtis, Jaret T. Guimond, Mark E. Knott, Ross Denbroeder, and Jenniffer C. Phillips. These students had completed all their degree requirement by the end of December 1996 and graduated at Encaenia in May 1997.

Alfred Kleusberg, outgoing chair of the department, addressed the crowd at the banquet. Carrying on the tradition established in 1982, the graduating students were presented with pewter lapel pins in the shape of the surveying engineering program crest.
