Dave Wells, André Godin Recipients of U.S. Navy Superior Public Service Awards
Citation for Dave Wells:
In recognition of his superior service and dedication to the United States Navy and the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, Dr. David Wells, a serving member of the Fédération Internationale des Géomètres / International Hydrographic Organization International Advisory Board is also a professor emeritus at the University of New Brunswick. Dr. Wells served as the "mentor" or guiding hand in the creation and implementation of the new program. An internationally recognized hydrographer and geodesist, he guided the University of Southern Mississippi's faculty through the development of the Master of Science in Hydrographic Sciences program. As a co-creator of the University of New Brunswick's hydrographic program, Dr. Wells provided keen insight that enabled the compression of the robust academic curriculum into a single calendar year. As a member of the Fédération Internationale des Géomètres / International Hydrographic Organization International Advisory Board, he oversaw the preparation of the approval submission package. The Board's rapid approval attests to the thoroughness of his advice, experience and preparations. Additionally, Dr. Wells taught key courses in the curriculum. Like his counterparts, Dr. Wells had little notice for course preparation, yet, the quality of the materials consistently achieved academic excellence. Dr. Wells's unmatched ability, peerless initiative and dedication in the service of his country has reflected great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Navy.
